Problem: A) There are Xerographic Module stripper finger marks (the three marks / spots / dots on the paper line up with the XCRU stripper fingers) on the edge of the paper, or on the paper. You may also have the following additional symptoms: Toner contamination of the stripper fingers and/or star wheels on the stripper finger bracket. Broken or missing stripper fingers (caused by frequent jam clearance) 10-101, and/or 10-102, and/or 10-103 jams in the fuser Wrinkles Inverter jams Dogeared (dog ear, dog-eared, dog earing) copies/prints B) Same symptoms as above, but they only occur on the second side of a duplexed copy/print job. Cause: A) The detack transformer on the HVPS PWB has failed or is failing, and there is no voltage or low voltage provided to the detack corotron. B) Damp, defective, or low quality paper. During the first pass through the Fuser/Inverter, the paper develops excessive curl. If the set of the curl matches the curvature of the drum during the duplex pass there is a greater tendency toward stripper fingers marks, jams and dog ears. If you have any of the above symptoms, check the the functionality of the detack circuit: NOTE 1: The following check applies to 32/35/38/45/55 ppm machines. Single and duplexed sheets in 65/75 ppm machines need stripper finger assistance when being detacked from the drum. Cheat the front door interlock and view the paper as it comes off the drum. If the detack is working properly, it will cause single sided sheets to fall off the drum at about the 6 o'clock position on the drum. The lead edge of a single sided sheet should never go near the drum stripper fingers or the star wheels on the stripper finger bracket. (See note 2 below.) If the paper is being knocked off the drum by the stripper fingers, and/or the paper brushes up against the star wheels on the stripper finger bracket, the detack is not working properly. (Applies only to single sided sheets in 32/35/38/45/55 ppm machines.) To check if the detack voltage is available at the correct value: WARNING A warning is used whenever an operating or maintenance procedure, practice, condition or statement, if not strictly observed, could result in personal injury. A translated version of all warnings is in Translation of Warnings. I n the following steps you will be working near high voltage Remove the outboard shield from the T/DT corotron. Set your Fluke Meter to measure AC volts / Range 0000. Hook the red lead to the small spring that tensions the detack (right) wire. Hook the black lead to frame. 3.Cheat the front door interlock switch. 4.Activate DC330 09-064, the detack corotron. The meter should read "OL" (voltage over limit). If it does not, the detack voltage is not in spec. Solution: Fixed! Did not fix. A) Perform the following: Ensure the Detack Lead is plugged into the HVPS. Check that you have continuity on the detack circuit by checking for 47K ohms between the spring on the outboard Detack Corotron wire and the HV Detack lead at the HVPS. Ensure the Chute Bias (CB) Lead is plugged info the HVPS, and that the other end of the lead is plugged into the spade connector on the Registration Transport. Check that you have continuity (less than 1 ohm) on the CB Lead from the plug on the HVPS end to the plug on the Registration Transport end. If the above checks are good, replace the HVPS PWB. Make sure to order the correct HVPS for your machine model/speed (PL1.10). B) Use fresh, quality paper from an unopened ream. If the problem continues: Increase the DC component of the Detack LE voltage by decreasing by 20 bits the NVM values in DC131 09-015 (Detack LE Side 1), and DC131 09-018 (Detack LE Side 2). Reduce the Fuser Standby Temperature DC131 10-028, and Fuser Run Temperature DC131 10-029 by 10 bits, and change the Fuser Cardstock Offset value, DC131 10-059 from 15 to 30. As a last resort, decrease fuser nip pressure (front and rear) by two turns. NOTE 2: When checking the functionality of the detack, ALWAYS use fresh paper from an unopened ream. Also be aware that duplexed sheets, just like 65/75 ppm single sided sheets, do not drop off the drum at the 6 o'clock position . They ride up higher before they get knocked off by the detack voltage and may need stripper finger assistance. Old paper that has been sitting in the machine for a long time, or paper that has been removed from its packaging, will absorb moisture which leads to excessive curl after the first side passes through the fuser. Old or damp paper can jam when duplexed. Old or damp paper folding over and jamming in the fuser is not necessarily an indication of a defective HVPS. Try installing a modified stripper finger assembly 604K53940 (5687F EDoc / PL 9.20 & 9.22 / item 19 XRU skids kit), which is designed to eliminate the problem of curled copies causing jams on transportation from the XCRU to the fuser module. (NOTE: As of 11/20/08, 604K53940 is completely out of stock, with no recovery expected until 06/30/09. For workarounds, see Eureka tips 182778 and 498556.) NOTE 3: An open detack circuit, or lack of detack voltage, will NOT cause an 09-060 fault. For the detack circuit, only a short, or excessive increase in detack (AC) current will cause an 09-060. NOTE 4: If the Detack HV Harness is shorted against the rear frame, you may have the symptoms (caused by an intermittent open, broken detack HV lead) above, plus 09-060 HVPS faults (which can occur if worn / broken insulation allows the HV wire to short to the machine frame). In that case, follow Solution in Tip 245918. |
